Personal Social Health, Citizenship and Economic Education (PSHCEE)

Aims

  • To provide opportunities for all pupils to learn and to achieve
  • To promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and prepare all pupils for the opportunities and experiences of life.
  • To provide opportunities for pupils to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes to help them become confident, responsible citizens with respect for the values and beliefs of others.

Programme Content

As well as that prescribed in the statutory orders for RSE, CFG and Citizenship the programme has been updated to include the five principles of ‘Every Child Matters’.

  • Be healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Enjoy and achieve
  • Make a contribution
  • Achieve economic wellbeing

At Stamford Queen Eleanor School PSHCEE is involved in providing a variety of other activities such as Industry day, induction to KS4, Diversity day, Work experience and mock interviews.  Wherever possible, relevant community groups, organisations and individuals are invited into school to make a contribution to the programme and enrich the curriculum.  We enlist the support of the school nurse and health advisers, connexions for careers advice, theatre groups, local politicians, local police and other community groups.  Students are encouraged to work, participate and benefit from involvement in the local community.  We take/make as many opportunities as possible to promote local, national and global issues.

Entitlement

PSHCEE as a separate curriculum subject is an entitlement for all students, regardless of gender, race or ability in each year group.  It has an allocated timetable time of 4% for all year groups.

It is taught in accordance with curriculum 2000 guidelines for PSHE and citizenship.

In 2009-10 all year groups study PSHCEE for one hour per week.

KS3 students are taught in ability groups and KS4 students are taught in mixed ability groups.

PSHCEE is to become statutory in September 2011.
