Love Reading, Love English, Love Learning
Studying English at SQES is not just about acquiring knowledge, but it is also about developing skills to be used both in and out of the classroom. These skills will stay with you forever. There is a reason why employers and course providers expect all applicants to have achieved a ‘C’ grade or higher in their English GCSEs: English teaches you life skills.
Importantly, if you excel in English, you will excel in your other subjects as well; studying English will give you the key you need to unlock your education. Without English, you will never reach your full potential in your other subject areas.
Throughout KS3, we focus on building and developing key skills. We work on activities to improve literacy, as well as considering how to approach a variety of texts: prose, poetry, drama, non-fiction to name just a few. The course covers Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing tasks and is designed to prepare you for KS4.
In KS4, we have two important goals. Firstly, we want to give everyone the best possible chance of passing English Language so that they are able to do whatever they wish when they leave SQES. The English Language course is very functional and is designed to prepare students for further studies and for future employment. Secondly, we study an English Literature course which allows students to experience novels, poems and plays from the perspective of enjoying learning. This allows them to go through a much more academic experience that should encourage learning for learning’s sake.
At the end of the day, if you want to succeed at SQES and achieve in you examinations: love reading, love English, love learning!
