Valuing the Individual
As a small school we have the advantage of being able to offer personalised care and support for all of our students – an approach that can be more difficult to provide in larger schools. We put a particular emphasis on valuing the needs of every individual child.
Each student is placed in a ‘House’ which is represented by a specific House tie. This affords students a sense of identity across the school and provides opportunities for inter-school competition in a variety of events. This sense of community is reinforced by the use of ‘vertical tutor groups’ that are made up of students from all year groups, enabling students to mix with different age groups throughout the school.
Every student enjoys the attention of a Personal Tutor and Year Head. The school also enjoys the services of a number of Learning Mentors who are available to talk through any personal difficulties students may have. Nurture mentors are also used to support the children whilst an Attendance Officer ensures that attendance rates in school remain high.
Older students support their younger counterparts through peer counselling and paired reading schemes. We also have a very active and effective Student Council. Our aim is that all of our students have a friendly face to turn to when they may need it.
