Special Educational Needs

At Stamford Queen Eleanor we assume that all students have individual needs although some students may have 'special needs'.  The national Code of Practice states that 'A child has special educational needs if he or she has a learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her'.

These needs may mean students need more help with learning, literacy or extra help to settle into secondary school to gain confidence or to ensure that they behave appropriately.  They may also need help because of physical impairment.

The school's Learning Support Department seeks to develop the abilities and skills of all children with special needs so that we increase the potential for learning in all aspects of the curriculum.  Central to these aims is the development of effective channels of communication among the Learning Needs staff. their colleagues. students. parents, outside agencies and other relevant bodies.

Special Educational Needs (SEN) in the school is co-ordinated by the SENCo assistant who is responsible for the day to day running of he school's special needs resources.  A copy of the full policy is available from the website's policy section.
