The Headteacher, Wendy Hamilton, and Chair of Governors, Jonathan Selwyn, welcomed the recent Ofsted inspection at Stamford Queen Eleanor School.
Jonathan Selwyn, Chair of Governors commented ‘The last 18 months have seen great change at Stamford Queen Eleanor School and we very much welcome the report from the Ofsted inspection team. It highlights the many strengths of the school and recognises that the changes which we are implementing now provide us with an excellent platform to continue delivering a first class education for our students over the coming years. ‘
He continued ‘The Board of Governors are working closely with the new Head, staff and students at the school to ensure that there is an unremitting focus on academic achievement whilst at the same time protecting and enhancing the excellent pastoral care for which we are already well known. We are very proud of our students and delighted at the growing popularity of the school and we will continue with our work to ensure that we are the leading secondary school in the area.’
Wendy Hamilton, Headteacher, added ‘Since becoming Headteacher last September I have undertaken reviews in a number of key areas within the school. I am pleased that the Ofsted inspection team concurred with the outcomes of these reviews. In particular, the inspectors agreed that the students are a credit to the school. They are well behaved, enjoy coming to school and have a hunger to learn. Much of the teaching is considered good with some being outstanding. We will now look to share this good and outstanding practice and ensure that it is embedded throughout the school. The pastoral care and the way in which we safeguard children is good with some exemplary practice.’
Ms Hamilton continued ‘Because of the dip in our exam results in 2008, the new Ofsted inspection regime caps our overall outcome as satisfactory with good features. The Ofsted inspectors recognised, however, that the school put in place a robust plan to address the dip in performance and as a result the school went on to achieve a record set of results in 2009. The inspection report notes that the school now has the capacity to continue to improve over the coming years and that the school’s results will continue to show an upward trend. ‘
‘As Headteacher I am absolutely determined that the school will continue to offer an outstanding education to each and every student in our care. We are currently implementing a new and challenging curriculum for our students, including an expanded GCSE and applied offering and the opportunity to undertake AS level courses in Year 11.’
‘We are developing a partnership with the Deepings School to expand teaching and learning opportunities. We are also developing our very strong partnership with the Stamford Endowed Schools and New College Stamford to provide a unique post-16 offering to our students. This is an exciting time for the school and for the Stamford community in which our school plays a central role.’
